Movement Shiatsu

A weekend workshop with Bill Palmer in London on June 7/8th 2008.

This course is a weekend introduction to Movement Shiatsu.

Movement Shiatsu particularly helpful when working with chronic conditions.

Movement Shiatsu is much more interactive than most other forms, and the client is involved in experiencing and experimenting with their body, movement and behaviour to loosen and change deeply ingrained energy patterns.

Bill's research into child development in the 1980's showed how the Six Divisions are the 'roads' along which the infant nervous system learns to inhabit the body and learn six archetypal body-mind functions. In adults, working with the six divisions through exercise, Shiatsu and experiment, re-awakens these archetypal lessons and allows the client to access parts of themselves that can move them out of their chronic and stuck condition.

In this workshop Bill will introduce what he calls Developmental Process Work. This uses Shiatsu and Developmental Movements to release stuck energy patterns in a way that the client can consciously embody and take into the rest of their life. The workshop will be very practical and will aim to present the material in such a way that you will be able to really use it to enhance your Shiatsu practice.

Clients find this work engaging, challenging and satisfying since they are moved out of a passive 'patient' or 'victim' role and into a state where they take charge of their lives. Practitioners find the work enlivens their contact with clients and reconnects to the spontaneous and intuitive basis of Shiatsu touch.

Bill says about his work: "My central belief is that we, as individuals, are not wise enough to know what is best for another person. Therefore, I don't try to understand what to do by diagnosis and theory. Instead, I focus on helping people to feel into themselves through their body sensations, and trust their natural life process to do the therapeutic work. My work is now more like education than therapy. Since I believe the meridians to be the pathways along which the mind learns to inhabit the body in childhood, they provide one of the best ways of helping a person's awareness to reach hidden and blockaded parts of the self. The meridians are the guides, teaching us about ourselves through the body."

He has written over forty articles exploring this approach, some of which are available online."
