The SEED POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME

The following photos give a pictorial flavour of what we do on the postgraduate programme. Movement Shiatsu uses active positions to help  a client to feel their own strengths and weaknesses. The therapist then assists the client  to find exercises and body processes which use the strengths and address the weaknesses.

What HAPPENS ON A COURSE?
In this position the client can feel how their pelvis is connected to their neck
With this movement the client feels the connection between the throat and the heart.
By gently taking up the slack in the body, the client becomes aware of tension and how to release it.
Working in the sitting position allows the client to feel how their posture deals with gravity.
In this position, the client becomes aware of their core musculature and, in particular, the strength in the Jue Yin Division (Liver and Heart Protector)
The therapist uses touch to help the meridians to support the position. That is, the whole body learns to integrate with the core.
Using the cat and cow positions to become aware of how the limbs are integrated through the back and the sacrum.
By moving between these positions the client becomes aware of the parts of her back that are rigid and disconnecting the limbs
For this person, the arms are weak because the shoulder blades are fixed to the ribs by tight muscles.
Energy follows awareness. Awareness follows touch
Repatterning movement by helping the body to be experimental about how it moves.
How do we remain in contact with others when our emotions are blowing us around
Contact Improvisation teaches people to listen to spontaneous impulse
One of our main principles is that touch transmits the practitioner’s inner state. Therefore work on yourself and that work will help the client.
Some positions stimulate primitive reflexes which allow us to release stuck development
This position is stimulating the birth reflex. As with Yin and yang, when a process (in this case compression) gets extreme, it wakes up the opposite, (expansion).
When we talk ABOUT ourselves we are not in touch WITH ourselves.
Connecting the throat and heart aids EXPRESSION instead of DESCRIPTION

theory and philosophy are important aids to suggesting relevant experiments. The important thing is not to try to FIT someone into a THEORY
the group, and enjoyment in being together are an essential part of the course

Even in normal bodywork, we think of touch as teaching rather than treating
teaching the ribs to breath
developing enjoyment and energy
developing the warrior energy
the jaw and the top of the neck are intimately related. Learning to let go of one facilitates release of the other.
We get old when we forget how to play. We deal with chronic issues. If we are too serious, all we do is increase the fixed stuckness.
A major focus for the course is how to listen, how to talk and how to naturally move from talking to bodywork.
We also do straight Shiatsu!
