How do Meridians Develop through Movement
Three workshops: 9-11 March 2012, 23-24 Nov 2012, 8-10 March 2013These weekend workshops can be taken independently. They are an introduction to the work of Bill Palmer. Bill worked for over 10 years with children with cerebral palsy and other developmental difficulties. He observed that working with the meridians stimulated movements even when the child had brain damage which normally would impair the movement.
This led to research with babies which showed that the Yang meridians acted as maps showing which muscles needed to act together to perform whole body movements such as crawling, rolling, pushing and reaching.
These maps not only follow the meridians, they trace the Six combined channels - The Yang Ming, Tai Yang and Shao Yang. The Yin channels are similar maps for deeper tonification and preparation for movement. Bill has found that working with the movement as well as the meridian is an excellent way of helping all clients to unblock and enliven stuck and chronic conditions.
This workshop show how to use Shiatsu and Developmental Movements to release stuck energy patterns in a way that the client can consciously embody and take into the rest of their life. The workshop will be very practical and will aim to present the material in such a way that you will be able to really use it to enhance your Shiatsu practice.
Bill says about his work: "My central belief is that we, as individuals, are not wise enough to know what is best for another person. Therefore, I don't try to understand what to do by diagnosis and theory. Instead, I focus on helping people to feel into themselves through their body sensations, and trust their natural life process to do the therapeutic work. My work is now more like education than therapy. Since I believe the meridians to be the pathways along which the mind learns to inhabit the body in childhood, they provide one of the best ways of helping a person's awareness to reach hidden and blockaded parts of the self. The meridians are the guides, teaching us about ourselves through the body."
He has written over forty articles exploring this approach, some of which are available online."
